Weekend Inspiration: Leif Podhajsky

The amazing work of Australian artist and creative director Leif Podhajsky has been posted about here on the blog before, but I thought I would feature him again, this time as the subject of this week’s Weekend Inspiration. I have found myself revisiting his portfolio frequently over the past few weeks, In particular for his amazing album covers, as I’m working on a few myself.

He also launched the Melt Blog and has been experimenting with video and visuals.

Weekend Inspiration: Invisible Creature

Invisible Creature is a Seattle based design studio comprised by brothers Don and Ryan Clark. From music packaging and band posters, to logos and identity, these guys do it all and they do it well, to the point of even being nominated for 4 Grammy awards for their music packaging.
Really enjoy their great use of textures and clean vectors.

They are also behind the Sasquatch Music Festival identity, which Tycho will be playing at the end of this month, along acts such as Beck, Apparat, Purity Ring, Gardens & Villa, Com Truise, Star Slinger, Active Child, Lord Huron, to name a few.

Weekend Inspiration: Matthias Heiderich

The wonderful work of Berlin based, self-tought photographer Matthias Heiderich has been covered here on the blog a couple of times before, but I thought I would check up on him to see what he’s been up to and glad I did so. He’s posted a few new amazing series and pieces since then, which I just can’t seem to get enough of. Great color and great composition.
Below are more examples of some of my favorites (hard to pick), which Matthias was kind enough to let me use for this post.

This also marks the first of the Weekend Inspiration posts I’ll be doing every Friday. This week is about photography, but I’ll be covering other subjects, as well doing a couple of process posts, weekend challenges and other ideas I’m cooking up. This is an effort to hopefully get all of us here on the ISO50 community to continue to be involved, sharing, and inspired enough to want to try and learn new things.
Please feel free to post in the comments below any ideas you may have for the Weekend Inspiration posts (challenges, process posts, etc.)

Oakley ‘Acid Tortoise’ Frogskins Series

Oakley will be releasing a new series of Frogskins for this Spring/Summer 2012 season and here is a full look at this unique pack dubbed the “Acid Tortoise” series. We see the tortoise pattern used in a more colorful fashion with brighter colors like pink, orange, green and blue; and if color is not your thing, there’s a black pair, too. Each pair comes with an Oakley Iridium lens that is optimized with High Definition Optics.

Also, the black, blue and orange feature lenses that increase visual contrast and boost depth perception, while the pink and green give off neutral transmissions to help maintain color recognition. Look for these to hit Oakley retailers sometime around mid-April.

Zombies are coming on Sundance – The Walking Dead

TheWalkingDeadNoSiteGirl

Let’s say it in the introduction, what follows will be bleeding. For if arrival in France ,Walking Dead has bleed a lot of ink and also few gallons of hemoglobin .. Issue of Robert Kirkman’s comic, the series of Frank Darabont comes (finally) in the hexagon through the Sundance Channel, the channel under the creative direction of Robert Redford. As well tell you, we swallowed the whole first season as it is tasty and well spiced. Far from being a bloody teen entertainment, the series also left to reflect on our adaptation to a foreign world, full of zombies that were yesterday our cute neighbor. So before a looming pandemic, the INPEZ (National Institute for Prevention and Education against zombies) did well to give us some tips for warmly pass the Apocalypse. So if you want tomorrow (not those who sing, just those where you wake up) we can only advise you to takethis deadly jewelry which should avoid you a lot of bites ..

What a Face!

The Orbo is a series of watches with unusual dials. The series includes the Temp, the Date and the Stop, all of which have orbiting digital displays mounted ontop of the regular analogue dial. The secondary displays feature temperature or date depending upon the model. However the Stop is a Chronograph and features a cluster of secondary displays. Overall the effect is quite cute enough to warrant production.

Solaris Watch

A concept watch for Tokyoflash, the Solaris features solar cells as an integral part of the design. It definitely has that almost “too hard to use” quality found on most Tokyoflash watches but theres something about this design I find extremely appealing. Perhaps because it looks like a device a sci-fi hero would use to jump through time.

The Queen City Studio: BFLO

I found this series by Rob from The Queen City Studio pretty impressive, its an ode to his hometown of Buffalo, NY, I think a project like this is perfect for a graphic designer that needs a subject to show off his ideas and skills.

Exercise Sticks?

The el:Dudy is an all around hand-held exercise system for “older” people. Each has a bevy of motion sensors and accelerometers to accurately track progress. All the information is sync’d and stored on your computer or phone via bluetooth Real Snazzy eh? This looks so cool. I can handle wrist twists and I love anything that helps stretches me out. And since when did massage become exercise? I’m not “old” but sign me up. Preventative measures people!

Dust In Design

Love this project called Snow Dust. Dust is an inevitable reality, one that we usually sweep away in annoyance but this designer chose to embrace it. A series of everyday household objects like a fan, shutters, and lampshade are constructed to a complex geometric pattern designed to collect dust. Something that is supposed to be gross and dirty is suddenly highlighted and transformed into natural art, unpredictable and possibly beautiful.
