Hyper-realistic owls: drawings by John Pusateri

Hyper-realistic owls: drawings by John Pusateri

Would you believe these owls aren’t real? They are actually hyper-realistic illustrations by New Zealand-based artist and professor John Pusateri. He uses charcoal, pencils, and pastels to draw the nitty gritty details of these birds.

Looking at the images closely, it’s amazing how he captures the texture and chaotic beauty of the feathers. And those eyes that keeps staring back at you – even if you know it’s not real – is just something else.

Photorealistic Pencil Drawings by Franco Clun

The Italian artist Franco Clun is already 50 years old, and drawing still remains just a hobby. Although, we believe, with such talent, he could well be a professional artist.

The Girl and Her Dog – Jeong Woo Jae

The Korean artist Jeong  Jae Woo painted with details so realistic that, following the quick look, these oils could be mistaken for photographs. However, quickly pictorial qualities manifest as clean brush, incredibly vibrant colors and light, and a disproportionately large dog.

Hyperealistic Human Body

Realistic Color Drawings of Everyday Objects by Marcello Barenghi hyperrealism drawing

Italian artist Marcello Barenghi draws incredibly realistic everyday objects that appear almost three dimensional with the help of colored pencils and occasional enhancements using markers or watercolor. Each work appears ever so slightly stylized which I think sets these apart from similar hyperrealistic drawings that are meant to ‘trick’ a viewer. If you want to see more, Barenghi runs a YouTube channel where he documents the process of almost every drawing. (via 2headedsnake)

Juan Carlos Manjarrez Paintings

Paolo Troilo’s finger-painted portraits are poetry in motion

Paolo Troilo’s finger-painted portraits are poetry in motion

After leaving his illustrious career as an award-winning advertising creative director a few years ago, Milan-based self-taught artist Paolo Troilo has gone on to make these hyper-realistic human portraits with so much fluidity and movement, it’s hard to imagine that all he does to paint these is dip his fingertips into jars of acrylic, black and ivory and slather on. What? Some people just have mad skills.

Fascinated by the texture and color of water artist Elizabeth Patterson challenged herself to recreate the absurdly complex formation of water droplets on rain-streaked windshields. Her ongoing series titled Rainscapes blends drawing, hyperrealism, and traditional landscape techniques resulting in images that can be seen as both real and abstract.

Patterson begins with her own photography and often utilizes several images for a single drawing, finding the details and patterns that feel right for each composition. Interestingly, the precise nature of the sharpened pencils results in drawings that are more detailed than her source material. You can see more of her work on her website as well as Louis Stern Fine Arts. You can also catch a brief video interview with the artist courtesy La galerie Louis Carré. (thnx, choon)

Amazing Portrait Drawn with Ballpoint Pens by Samuel Silva

Amazing Portrait Drawn with Ballpoint Pens by Samuel Silva portraits hyperrealism drawing

Nope, not a photograph. This is an amazing portrait drawn by 29-year-old Portugal-based attorney Samuel Silva (he says art is just his “hobby”) based on a photograph by Russian photographer Kristina Tararina. Silva’s medium of choice is standard Bic ballpoint pens on paper and this particular portrait uses eight different colors, taking some 30 hours to complete. The drawing went gangbusters on Reddit last night and Silva fields a number of questions about his work over on deviantART. You can see many more of Silva’s drawings here. (via reddit)

Hyper-realistic Vincent van Gogh lookalike

van gough art

It’s fascinating when someone is passionate enough about something or someone to honor them in a unique way. This artist’s name is James Birkbeck, who claims his personality is a lot like that of Vincent van Gogh, but after a bit of makeup and some skilled photography their likeness is uncanny.
