Fiorile

DSC 9052 Fiorile
“Fiorile” is the Italian translation of the name of a month in the calendar of the French Revolution. Here the term is interpreted as a contraction of ‘fiore’ (flower) and ‘femminile’ (female). The series is formed by black and white self-portraits where different parts of the female body are accompanied by different kinds of flowers.

Full-Body Scans by Till Koenneker

my reality Till Koenneker Full Body Scans by Till Koenneker
Till Koenneker figured that if you slowly scan every part of the body and then stick them together, you have pretty much a real-life image of the person, so he grabbed a few friends and members of his family and created 13 life-size pictures…

Physical Movement Translated into Drawings

Optical Illusions with Naked Bodies

Gasp-worthy body sculptures by Francesco Albano

Gasp-worthy body sculptures by Francesco Albano

Here’s how you make a name for yourself in the sculpture world! Italian-born artist Francesco Albano’s human body sculptures ‘drip, melt, hang, and often appear to be boneless’ in a collection you’ve just gotta see to believe. Using wax, polyester, latex, iron and other materials, Albano sculpts ‘shapes and contortions that render the erect and boundaried body flaccid and grotesque.’

Francesco Albano now lives in Istanbul and has won the National Prize of Arts-MIUR for sculpture. He is ‘interested in and influenced by a wide range of subjects from philosophical, mystical and spiritual arguments to scientific theories, from psychological studies to real life stories.’

If Models Looked Like Fashion Sketches

"You Are Not A Sketch" is a series that depicts a fashion sketch next to a 1:1 proportional model. The disturbing images were released by Star Models, a modeling agency in Brazil. The campaign packs a powerful message: say no to anorexia. Since society is always shoving down our throats that we should be stick-thin and Photoshop-pretty, it’s nice to see modeling agencies finally speak out.

Hyperealistic Human Body

Skin by Ariana Russell

Ariana Page Russell's skin blushes easily. The slightest scratch will turn into a visible swollen line on her pink skin. Due to a condition called dermatographia, her immune system releases excessive amounts of histamine, causing capillaries to dilate and welts to appear, lasting about thirty minutes. This allows her to painlessly draw on her skin with just enough time to photograph the results.

In this series of photographs by Carl Warner, human bodies have been contorted, lit, and manipulated to form expansive landscapes reminiscent of barren deserts and mountains. The London-based photographer who might be best known for his Foodscapes, says that he shoots all of the forms in his studio to focus attention on “one person’s body, creating a sense of place so that a body that is lived in becomes a place to live.” The images are then digitally pieced together using Photoshop. If you liked this also check out the work of Arno Rafael Minkkinen and of course Spencer Tunick (nsfw). (via PetaPixel)

His most recent project is a departure from his work with food, and perhaps posed an even greater challenge. Dubbed “Bodyscapes,” the series turns the ridges, hills and valleys of one or more human bodies into strange and surreal landscape photos.

Each photo is named based on the body parts it is composed of, and some are more difficult to make look landscape-like than others.

Bodyscapes Photography

Innovative & Stylish 3D Printed Cast by Jake Evill

An innovative cast for broken and fractured body parts designed by Jake Evill.

The 3D Printed Cast fits perfectly over injured limb and holds the bone in place. It is fully ventilated, lightweight, shower friendly, recyclable, stylish, and thin enough to be worn under regular clothing.

It is printed with a large opening that enables easy access, the cast is fitted and then closed using built-in fasteners. A great alternative to traditional plaster casts that are bulky and itchy.

Gross Stray Hairs, Crystallized Into Beautiful Gems

A stray hair is a gross chunk of human. But crystallized? It’s basically jewelry.

There’s nothing more nauseating than finding a stray hair in your food, especially when you know it isn’t your own. But it wasn’t always this way. The hair started out as a beautiful thing sitting atop someone’s head. Sure it’s gross in your soup, but you weren’t complaining five minutes earlier when it was dangling from the noggin of a cute blonde chef.

This is roughly the motivation behind crystallized hair. Students Daniel Keeffe, Amy Webster, Milly Bruce, and Sam Part wanted to make stray hairs beautiful again, so through arduous work, they transformed an icky dead body part back into a natural wonder.

“Our process was quite disgusting, involving cutting off hair and grinding it down using pestle and mortar until we had a powder,” Keeffe tells Co.Design. “The idea of reintroducing beauty is just like any restoration job in that it doesn’t look good until we had a finished product. In that sense, it was trial and error to get a visually pleasing outcome.”

With the hair powder in hand, the team extracted the natural color (melanin) from blonde, brunette, and red samples. The melanin was then mixed with a crystal-forming solution, ostensibly regrowing the hair as a sparkling gem.

Looking at the final results, the blonde is a fairly obvious fungal toenail yellow, while it’s a bit harder to distinguish brown and red, which both manifested as grey crystals. But in each case, the crystals are more appealing than their constituent vacuum-clogging, unintentional-tooth-flossing stray hairs. And when the team finally tossed them into a kaleidoscope, who amongst us could tell the difference?

See more here.

Artist Creates Barbie Doll With a ‘Realistic’ Body

This is the “normal” Barbie artist Nicholay Lamm created with the help of a 3D printed model of a normal woman. This white model was made using measurements that match up closely with CDC measurements of the average 19 year old woman in America. The end result is what Barbie would look like if she was a healthy, beautiful, 19 year old woman. As you see, she's not as tall or skinny as the real Barbie.
