Leaf House : Wood signs we found

Wood signs we found by Leaf House

Stacey Rozich’s Masked Myths

Seattle based illustrator Stacey Rozich’s work is littered with vibrant tribal patterns and drawings based on folklore. She brings an animated, lively, modern perspective to stories of myth. Her pattern work and line work are nothing short of exhilarating, playing reference to southwestern art, and tribal marks.

Music Monday

In case you haven’t heard there’s a new Radiohead/Fourtet/Burial collab that dropped last week, piggy-backing on the new Radiohead album. I wasn’t immediately gripped with The Kind of Limbs, but not so with this song, it’s an earworm for sure.

Ruckzuck by Kraftwerk is one of those songs I’ve known almost my whole life but never actually knew what it was until last week. Apparently I’ve been a Kraftwerk fan since childhood, because this was the theme song from 1980′s Twin Cities Public TV show Newton’s Apple. (Ira Flatow anyone?) Got me started early on science learning & electronic tunes long before Bill Nye the Science Guy cornered the market on wacky science tv shows for kids!

And now for a completely different sound, Fleet Foxes new single, Helplessness Blues. It’s off their new album launching May 6th. Oh man, if the rest of the album is anything like this…hot damn, I’m excited! This one’s from Visual Armory.

tracks | “TOMORROW’S AFTERNOON TEA” – a Neocha Net Label album of chinese indie folk bands & solo acts w/ female lead singers

Just a couple days ago we were listening to a compilation album in the NeochaEDGE studio that we put out a couple years ago under the Neocha Net Label. The compilation is titled “Tomorrow’s Afternoon Tea” and is a collection of ten beautiful original tracks from Chinese indie folk bands and solo acts with female vocalists. Part of the motivation behind the compilation is that we wanted to celebrate the female voice, which, at the time, was underrepresented in the local music scene.

At any rate, we thought we’d share it again with everyone, because, well, it’s worth sharing again. Have a listen below – you’ll find it hard not to enjoy.

For a more recent release from of the Neocha Net Label, check out eXpo, a ten-track compilation showcasing leading independent Chinese electronic musicians. This was a project NeochaEDGE did together with The Shanghai Restoration Project.

Stacey Rozich

Do folk artists usually call themselves folk artists? Seattle-based Stacey Rozich does, but there’s not a hint of irony in her work. Her images look like illustrations from a forgotten Eastern European tribe that intermarried with the Native American tribes of the Pacific Northwest.
