* A votre santé !

Futuristic Styled Apartment in Moscow

Art of Face: a series about models transformed into 2D images with makeup

Art of Face: a series about models transformed into 2D images with makeup

Moscow-based photographer Alexander Khokhlov loves capturing images that blur the lines between 3D and 2D. In fact, this has been the theme surrounding his last three projects: 2D or not 2D, Angry Beards, and Weird Beauty, all of which make up (pun not intended) his overarching series Art of Face.

To create the surreal images, he works with makeup artist Valeriya Kutsan and retouching expert Veronica Ershova in transforming different models into 2D versions of themselves. Together, the artists use various face painting techniques and mediums to create different 2D art, like comics, pop art, cartoon characters, and paintings. Simple but well-executed projects like these show us how far a little makeup ad a lot of imagination can do.

30 squats will get you a subway ride in Moscow

Olympic fever looks to be taking over the Russian capital with a Moscow subway handing out tickets all for the price of 30 squats. This special ticket machine was placed in a local subway of Moscow and passengers were given the option of exercising for their fares! From young kids to adults, everyone in this video seems to love the idea of a little exercise. Take a look at the video and let us know if you’d go to the trouble of 30 squats while commuting to or from work—sounds like a great idea, if you ask me.

If Snowden reviewed Moscow Airport on TripAdvisor

If Snowden reviewed Moscow Airport on TripAdvisor

Now that Russia has granted Edward Snowden asylum, it’s only natural that Snowden should at least leave a review of the Moscow Airport, where he spent five agonising weeks at wondering where he could go next. It’s fictitious, of course (‘NO ONE TAKES AMERICAN EXPRESS’), but the sheer earnestness is ridiculously hilarious.

Bar-Studio Kluchi, Moscow

Kluchi, a must-be-seen-in new club in Moscow, is a real mixture of styles, partly owing to the turbulent history of the building and partly due to its protected status.

Built in the 18th Century, the property was reduced to a stone skeleton by the 1912 fire. Then followed the wooden additions, but the complete restoration and rebirth was only recently finished. The result is a mish-mash of the old and new which has been expertly blended like a fine cocktail by designers Peter Kostelov, Alexey Rozenberg, and Anton Grechko.

The club is divided into three main areas of different age and architectural style, giving rise to three distinct looks and purposes – the main bar, a smaller bar and a chill-out room. We particularly like the tubular lights of differing sizes extending from the ceiling of the stairwell, and the mirror image effect of the wooden tables and light fittings in the smaller bar, although it might be a bit disturbing if you’ve been at the Stolichnaya for too long. Make mine a double…
